Health-oriented Agri-Food Systems Transformation Network (HEAL)

The HEAL network aims to address existing gaps and lead an intersectoral, multi-level integration of health and agri-food systems. We seek to bring Health in All Policies (HiAP) and Health for All Policies (H4AP) considerations into research, practices and policy recommendations. Representing upstream and downstream research and practice along the agri-food systems value chain, we are a transdisciplinary team with expertise in agriculture, health, political science, gender studies, communications, business, computer science, logistics, data analysis and modeling and simulation. With HEAL partners in Heidelberg, Stuttgart, and Böblingen, our team is located in three of the top four city/urban districts on Baden-Württemberg's.

Contribution to the funding and innovation policy priorities of the state

The HEAL team supports Baden-Württemberg’s strategic goals regarding health, digital advancement and the bioeconomy while addressing a gap in the European research eco-system on using health-oriented approaches in agri-food systems transformation. Further, the focus on building a Baden-Württemberg-based network to create new, and expand existing, research teams and the long-term strategic goals to strengthen Baden-Württemberg’s ability to act as a research hub. The HEAL partners have vast experience working on Baden-Württemberg’s priority areas in bringing large-scale projects

The HEAL network is designed to create a shift in how we approach health & agri-food systems by creating a Baden-Württemberg-based international network in health-oriented agri-food systems transformation; and strengthening Baden-Württemberg’s research in the EU while contributing to the state’s innovative capacity.
